How does the Environmental calculator count?The calculator is based on life cycle analysis. Research shows clear environmental benefits by using recycled polyethylene. By using 1 kg recycled polyethylene plastic carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by about 2 kg compared with using virgin material or production waste. In additiion the consumption of crude oil will decrease by 1 liter. In 2007, a compilation of three independent life cycle analyses calculating the environmental benefits were published. The analyses take into consideration all processes and transports in the life cycle of the plastic from extraction of crude oil, via manufacturing of packaging to the final incineration.
